“Find your place in the world;
embrace it as your own.”

Who are you?

My name, as you've probably guessed, is Troy Campbell. I'm a family man, and a professional web programmer, though I'm still relatively new to both. I recently earned a bachelor degree in information technology, with an emphasis in programming, from Kaplan University. In case you happen to be interested, here is a copy of my professional resume.

Before attending Kaplan University, I was a student at Mesa Community College in Mesa, AZ, and at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ. I attended those colleges in hope of earning a bachelors of science in psychology. Unfortunately, life and it's persnickety, fickle whims managed to steer me away from the life of a professional psychologist before I managed to complete that degree program. Somehow, as much as I loved to study human behavior, biology, social science, neurology, religion, and philosophy, it turns out I really do not have a drive to exercise that knowledge professionally. Looking back on it now, I occasionally wish I would have at least followed through with the degree plan to the end, but those feelings are short lived. I got what I needed out of those years of study. They helped me outgrow my past and made it possible for me to be the accountable, well-rounded, and thoughtful person that I try to be now.

Of course, there's always more to learn. There are always more life lessons to assimilate into one's own methods of madness. That's where this web site comes in.

What's this web site all about?

This site is my forum to the public, in which I share my thoughts in hopes that they will resonate for others, or spark a dialog in which ideas can be exchanged. Here too, I chronicle events in my life as a sort of online journal, in which others are free to share. Finally, I also use this space as a medium through which to practice my trade.

Admittedly, the opportunity to peddle my trade is the real reason for the site, and might actually be enough for me even in the absence of other incentives. Nevertheless, I do hope that, as I explore my hobbies here, people I know will be able to see what I do, and that people I don't know might be inspired to share similar interests with me.

This is actually the second version of www.TroyCampbell.name. The first version represented my initial forray into the world of Microsoft .NET, which I came to choose as my "specialty", more out of opportunity and convenience than true, personal preference. It just happens to be the platform most used by my employer, and so naturally it is what I have spent the most time with. However, this second version is a bit different, and showcases a few new bells and whistles. Instead of being built in .NET 2.0 and ADO.NET, as my first site was, this one is built in .NET 4.0, Model View Controller 2 (MVC 2), LINQ to SQL, and AJAX. With these newer technologies and platforms, I have been able to effectively renovate the site into something more modern, easier to use, and generally more up-to-date.
